Tips to save water in your home.

It's World Water Day and we've gathered some ways you can conserve water in your day-to-day life.

Along with the money saving reasons to conserve water, reducing your impact by what you put in your water along with eliminating unnecessary waste of this limited resource can make a huge difference in the world around you.

Every time we use water we produce wastewater. Instead of reusing it, we let 80% of it flow down the drain. Some easy steps to reduce our wasting of water...
Just by making a few small changes to your routine, you can make a huge difference on your water supply.

  1. Turn off the water when brushing your teeth, doing dishes, or cleaning vegetables.
  2. Put rubbish, oils, chemicals, and food in the trash rather than down the drain. The dirtier your water, the more energy and money it costs to 'clean' it.
  3. Collect used water from your kitchen sink or bathtub and use it on plants, garden, and to wash your bike or car. This can include dish water, bath water, and even water you used to boil pasta!
  4. If it's yellow, let it mellow. The toilet is the biggest user of water in your house (yep, more water than your washing machine, water heater, or dish washer). By not flushing every time you can save hundreds of gallons of water and cut your water bill down very noticeably!
  5. Fix leaks around the house. Even the tiniest of leaks can waste up to 20 gallons of water per day, bigger leaks much more.
  6. Install a rain-barrel to capture excess rainwater that can be saved to water gardens/lawns/etc.
  7. Water outdoor plants early in the morning to prevent evaporation.
  8. Skip the shower from time to time. Bathing in overly warm showers can strip valuable oils from your skin.
